Visa Type

  • Student Visa (D Study Visa): This is the most common visa for Indian students pursuing full-time studies in Ireland for more than 90 days.

Application Process

  • Apply online through the AVATS system on the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service (INIS) website.
  • Complete the application form online, print it, sign it, and gather all required documents

Appointment and Biometrics

  • Make an appointment with the Visa Facilitation Service (VFS) and pay the visa fees.
  • Submit your application, all documents, and provide biometrics at the VFS office.

Document Requirements

  • Prepare the necessary documents, including a current passport, letter of acceptance from a recognized Irish institution, passport-sized photographs, English language proficiency test results, proof of fee payment, evidence of funds, and medical insurance details.

Financial Requirements

  • Show that you have the required finances to support yourself for the full duration of the course without relying on casual employment in Ireland.
  • Ensure immediate access to course fees and living expenses for the first year and subsequent years if undertaking a multi-year course.


  • Submit your visa application four months in advance of your course start date, with the latest acceptable submission being three weeks before the course start date.
  • Apply as soon as you have your offer and supporting documents to allow for processing time.

English Language Requirement

  • Submit an approved English language test result as it is compulsory for all student visas.
  • English Test Scores accepted by the Irish visa office are IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, and Duolingo.
